Magnetic and/or electric energy radiated by an electric motor is attenuated by a tubular multiple screen comprising two or more nested and radially spaced thin-walled magneticallysoft iron shells 7, 7a, 7b which extend over at least the full length of the stator 2 and of the rotor core and of which the radially inner shell 7 is adjacent but spaced from the stator 2. The motor may be a cylindrical D.C. motor of which the stator 2 is annular, and is suitable for driving small magnetic sound recorders. The shells may be extended beyond the end-shields 4, 5 of a non-magnetic casing 3 and have their open ends closed by high susceptibility discs, not shown. Between the shell there may be provided material 6a, 6b which is non-magnetic, sound-absorbing, and possibly electrically insulating.
