Abstract

307,249. Klinge, P. A., and Borgstrom, O. E. May 16, 1928. Resistance furnaces. -An electric heater for melting typemetal in printing- machines and for similar purposes consists of a number of resistances enclosed in metal tubes 2 which are laid in grooves in a metal plate 1; a second grooved plate is then laid over them and the two plates welded together. The plates 1 may be of aluminium, and one is planed and polished to fit closely against the surface to be heated and the other covered with asbestos. The tubes 2 may be of brass lined with mica and contain resistance coils 3. Chambers 6 are formed at the ends of the plates and one of them contains the terminals 4. These consist of screws 10 passing through the wall of the plate and held by nuts 9 and packing discs 8. The heads 7 of the screws 10 are situated in the chambers 6. The end of the wire 3 is passed through a slot in the head 7 and secured by a screw 4a screwed into a hole in the head 7.
