Vanadium derivatives of f aromatic arsenic compounds containing hydroxyl or amino groups are prepared by interaction of the arsenic compounds with vanadium compounds, and the products then reduced if desired. The bodies possess therapeutic properties. According to the exam. ples, (1) 4 : 4<1>-dihydroxy-3 : 3<1>-diaminoarseno. benzene dihydrochloride or its sodium salt is treated with sodium orthovanadate or ammonium metavanadate; the product may be acetylated, treated with phosgene, or reduced with sodium hydrosulphite; (2) the reduction product of the preceding example is added to an aqueous solution of the 4 : 4<1>-dihydroxy-3 : 3<1>-diaminoarsenobenzene dihydrochloride; (3) sodium dihydroxydiaminoarsenobenzene monomethylenesulphoxylate is treated with sodium orthovanadate; the product may be reduced with sodium hydrosulphite; (4) sodium p-hydroxy-m-aminophenylarsinate or its acetyl derivative is caused to react with sodium orthovanadate or ammonium metavanadate; the product may be reduced. with sodium hydrosulphite.
