Abstract
306,691. Levy, S. I., and Gray, G. W. Feb. 10, 1928. Grant of Patent opposed. Sulphur is obtained in the chlorination by chlorine, ferric chloride, or sulphur chlorides, of iron-bearing sulphides such as pyrites, pyrrhotite, chalcopyrites. or mattes, utilizing the heat of reaction to maintain the desired temperature. At 300-500<‹> C. sulphur alone is volatilized and may be condensed at 120-180‹ C.; at 500-800‹ C. chlorides of zinc and lead are also volatilized, and are separated from the sulphur by fractional condensation.
