Abstract

306,644. Antonelli, D. Dec. 14, 1927. Making wafer biscuits. - A machine for making ice-cream cones comprises mould units having halfconical recesses on their external faces, and vertically-displaceable core members, the units being packed into two parallel rows along which they are moved intermittently, and are transferred one by one from one row to the other. As shown, the units 1 are supported by rollers on endless trackways 2, the units being packed together along the parallel straight parts of their course. The cores 5 are carried on core bars 4 connected resiliently by springs 6 to cross-bars 4a having pivoted latch members 7 which engage under projections 8 on the mould units to lock the cores therein. The mould units are locked together by bifurcated levers 10 which engage projections 9 on the units. The transfer of units from one row to the other is effected at both ends of the rows by swinging arms 12a, 12b having pivoted catch levers 13, 14 which engage the end units and move them around the curved parts of the tracks 2. The arms 12, 12 are oscillated by crank-operated slides 19, 20 having toothed racks 15, engaging pinions 15 on the shafts carrying the arms 12a, 12. The intermittent movement of the packed units 1 is effected by pawls 33 which engage the heating passages 3 in the units and are mounted on swinging arms 34 connected by spring-returned rods 35 attached to cross-bars 36 of pendulously mounted frames 37 having rollers 37 which are engaged by stops 40 on plates 39 mounted on the slides 19, 20, the frames 37 being thereby swung to operate the pawls. The bars 4a are released just prior to the transfer of their units 1 by the latching levers 7 engaging a stop. The freed bars are then lifted by bars 11 which engage cam plates 11<c> on the slides, the top of the bars 11 engaging the rollers 4. At the same time the pivoted stops 11 are operated by rollers 11 on the bars 11 and release the locking levers 10, thereby freeing the units for transfer. After the transfer the core bars are lowered by inclined members 22, the latches 7 re-hooking themselves. The levers 10 are forced in to re-lock the units by cam plates 23 on the slides 19, 20 which lift rods 24 and force spring plungers 25 against the levers 10. Butter is supplied, before the core bars are lowered, by swinging nozzle arms which are supplied from a pump operated by the slides 19, 20. The moulds are heated by gas burners 26 supplied from a main pipe 27. A copper heatconducting spindle extends into each core, and the bar 4 is preferably hollow to allow the heat to pass through the bar and around the copper spindles.
