Abstract
<PICT:0357470/IV/1> <PICT:0357470/IV/2> Artificial silk cakes are after-treated by supporting them on rods and passing them through a treating apparatus comprising a sprinkling machine and an immersion apparatus. The cakes are transported through the sprinkling apparatus by means of reciprocating laths for example as described in Specification 357,908, and through the immersion apparatus by a chain conveyer. A transfer mechanism is provided for taking up the cakes from the sprinkling machine and depositing them on the chain conveyer of the immersion apparatus. The transfer mechanism may comprise rocking levers provided with recesses in which the rods carrying the cakes are deposited in the last working stage of the reciprocating lath mechanism, and the weight of the rods and cakes causes the levers to tip and bring the rods into contact with the chain conveyer. As shown in the drawings, the intermediate conveying members comprise swing levers 1 which are weighted so that they stand upright when not loaded. In the last phase of the sprinkling machine, the transport rods 6, carrying the cakes are placed by the reciprocating laths into the recesses 5 of the swing levers. The levers immediately tilt towards the side on which the dipping machine is located. The chain conveyer 7 of the immersion machine with its claws 8 is so arranged that it can lift the bars 6 from the deflected swing levers and carry them away. The claws 8 are weighted and pivoted so that they remain upright during the passage of the chain over the wheels 10 . . 13, and during the whole time of immersion. The movement of the chain conveyer is preferably intermittent and it may be synchronized with that of the lath mechanism. The impact of an abutment bolt 4 of the swing lever 1 may be utilized for the purpose of starting the chain motor of the dipping machine. A stopping device for the chain motor is provided for permitting a definite feed and also to regulate the speed. The immersion tank 16 may be filled to such a depth that the entire zig-zag path of the chain conveyer is in the liquid. A device 14 is provided for removing the bars 6 with the cakes 15 at the end of the dipping machine.
