Abstract
305,894. Lanston Monotype Corporation, Ltd., (Lanston Monotype Machine Co.). June 21, 1928. Moulds for type-casting machines.-Relates to means for casting type having a cored or hollow body. The type are of the form shown in Figs. 6 and 7, having three vertical walls, and having the top wall 24 sloped at an angle to the upper surface of the body. The mould is provided with a core-piece 8, Fig. 1, which is held in place by the through-bolt 6, that passes through the side-blocks 4 of the mould, the end of the core-piece being spaced slightly from the crossblock 7. The sliding mould-blade is formed in two sections 17, 19, Fig. 4, which embrace the core-piece, and are connected together by a vertical tongue-and-groove connection. The top wall 14 of the cope-piece is sloped, and the lower edge of the sloping face is located above the molten-metal entrance, so that the metal is forced against the matrix by the wedge-shaped form of the space between the core-piece and the matrix, and the density of the type is thereby increased. A type of the form shown in Fig. 9 may be produced in a mould having a double core-piece.
