Single-type composing and casting machines; moulds.-Relates to moulds for casting elements, such as leads and rules, in which the outlet of the mould is closed by the previously cast element. The mould comprises two end-blocks B, B', Figs. 5 and 6, secured, one permanently and one adjustably, to a base A. Between the endblocks are located two mould side-plates C, C<1>, separated by distance-pieces D, D<1>, Fig. 2, beneath which slides a mould-blade F. The endblocks and the parts between are clamped together by bolts E. The plates C, C<1> are held down on the base A by clamps C<4>, which bear on intermediate plates C<5>, C<6>. A block G, containing a jet-opening G', slides in the base A, and a sliding pin G<2>, operated by a cam-piece H, ejects the jet-piece after the casting. A matrix J is seated on the side-plates C, C', and is held in place against a locating-plate K, Fig. 5, by a clamp L. If the matrix-cavity has a closed end, so that the matrix must be lifted after the casting, a matrix-holder N, Fig. 6, moving in guides 0, O<1>, is used. To prevent the cast from being lifted with the matrix, a retractable pin P, Fig. 5, is arranged to project slightly into the mould. A clamping-scraw, operated from a moving part of the machine, bears against f.he side-plate C, in order to clamp the previously cast element during injection of the metal. The side-plates may be grooved or channelled on their rear faces, to assist in maintaining the mould at a proper temperature.
