Abstract

305,800. Pochin, H. S., and Cheltnam, C. H. W. Jan. 25, 1928. Impellers.-The impeller of a centrifugal fan has a flat disc 5 at its back and shroud plates 6 - - 9 which are dishshaped and of increasing inclination from the disc 5. The plate 9 is connected to the hub by rods 11. Curved blades 10 are arranged between the disc and plates, the side edges of the blades being bent over and riveted to the plates. The shroud plate 9 is composed of sections 16 - - 19 welded together, and of such a shape that the welded joints are substantially perpendicular to the adjacent fan blades; each joint is crossed by three rows of rivets securing the blades to the plates. The inner and outer edges 15, 14 of the blades are bent over to form a bead for strengthening purposes. In a modification the back plate 30, Fig. 3, a dished shroud plate 31 and a flat shroud plate 32 are provided with curved blades 36 to form the impeller. The plate 32 is connected to the hub 33 by rods 34 and is made of welded sections the joints being crossed by the blade rivet rows. The diameter of the impeller on the inlet side is greater than that adjacent to the back plate.
