Abstract
305,043. I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.- Ges. Jan. 28, 1928, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. Vinyl ester resins are freed from unpolymerized ester by heating to about 80‹-100‹ C. in water or water vapour, whereby the volatile material in the resin is replaced by water. The water is then removed by treating the resin in a vacuum at about 100‹ C. or by cooling, comminuting, and submitting to a vacuum. In an example, the resinous polymerization product from vinyl acetate is placed in a kneading- machine provided with a distilling-device, and heated to 80‹ C. while stirring, water vapour being blown in. After about an hour, the mass is kneaded at 80‹-100‹ C. under reduced pressure to remove the moisture. After cooling, a colourless product is obtained which may be freed from bubbles by again heating to 80‹-100‹ C. If a higher temperature is applied, the viscosity and elasticity of the resin are diminished.
