Abstract

Generating in jackets around explosion chambers.-Steam is generated in a jacket around a closed chamber 1, in which a mixture of air and liquid, gaseous or powdered fuel is exploded. and around tubes 5 through which the explosion products escape at a high velocity. The explosive mixture may be supplied by a pump 16 driven by a turbine 17, operated by the escaping products. The valves 4, 22 at the inlet and outlet of the explosion chamber may be operated mechanically. The highly heated water and steam in the jacket passes through tubes 21 into the water in a drum 10 surrounding the jacket. The water is circulated from the drum through the jacket by a pump 19. In a modification, the jacketed explosion chamber and tubes are arranged vertically, and water flows from an upper drum into the lower part of the jacket through an external downcomer. The water or other liquid in the jacket may circulate in a closed system through heating tubes in the boiler water.
