Abstract

304,208. Ross, S, D., and Edwards, C. F. Jan 16, 1928, [Convention date]. Lubricant conveyed by fluid. - A lubricating device for internal-combustion engines comprises an oil container 7 in which are arranged two vertical tubes 13, 16 which communicate at their lower ends, which are immersed in the oil, by a passage 23 in a fitting 14, the upper end of the tube 13 communicating with the atmosphere through an adjustable needle valve 10, while the upper end of the tube 16 is connected by a fitting 19, which contains a check valve 18 and a regulating valve 20, to a pipe 26 connected to the intake manifold of the engine. Lubricant has access to the tube 16, the upper end of which is in communication with the interior of the container, through small passages 22. Air drawn through the tube 13 by the engine suction bubbles up through the oil in the tube 16 and passes, with entrained oil, to the engine.
