Abstract
303,920. Baxter, S. Oct. 12, 1927. Windings; alternating current commutator motors.-The invention relates to compensated series commutator motors for use on continuous and alternating current circuits, of the type in which the conductors of the main field winding are distributed around the stator in groups of adjacent slots spaced from one another by two or more slot pitches, and the conductors of the compensating winding are uniformly distributed around the stator. According to the invention, the pitch of the main and compensating windings of the stator is so reduced by winding the motor as a multipolar machine or six or more poles that it will work on alternating current circuits of widely different frequencies and on continuous current circuits with adjustment. As shown, the stator has thirty six slots, the main field winding a and compensating winding b extending over six slots for each pole, but the axes of the main and compensating windings are displaced by 90 electrical degrees. The centre slots 3 and 4, 9 and 10 &c. of the main poles contain no conductors of the main windings. The armature c may have a wave winding in twentythree slots, with a winding pitch of four slots, two diametrically opposite brush sets being employed.
