Shoots.-A shoot for forming a heap of material' in a vehicle or on a floor is provided with a conical or saddleshaped spreader l which is moved aside automatically on lowering the shoot on to the material, to permit delivery to the space between the heaps. The spreader may be moved laterally by raising and lowering the with a continuous flow of material, from the space between two trucks. As shown, the shoot comprises a series of adjustably inclined baffles d mounted in an open framework a adjustable vertically between rollers c on an overhead platform A. The shoot is raised as loading proceeds to receive material from a conveyer n at the level of any of the baffles d. The spreader l is mounted on a plate k hinged at one edge and resting at the opposite edge on bars i hanging from the shoot on links h. When the heaps formed by the spreader are of the required height, the shoot is lowered so that the spreader rests on the material and is tilted as shown in broken lines in Fig. 1. The lowest baffle of the shoot then delivers clear of the spreader to fill the space between the heaps. In loading trucks with a continuous flow of material. the shoot is raised after the operation last described until an arm o on the links supporting the spreader strikes a stop q on the platform, whereby the spreader is moved to the left as shown in Fig. 3 and the shoot delivers only on to the right-hand side l<1> of the spreader. The full wagon is now moved to the right, and when the front end of the next wagon is beneath the spreader the shoot is lowered, moving the spreader to the right as shown in broken lines so that the shoot delivers only to the left-hand side l<2> of the spreader. When the front end of the wagon has passed beyond the spreader, the latter is brought into the normal position. The spreader may consist of an angle frame covered with a length of resilient material.
