Abstract

303,103. Herold Akt.-Ges. Dec. 28, 1927, [Convention date]. Moulding artificial resins.-Thin plates of artificial resin are obtained by introducing a number of metal sheets, preferably nickel, spaced apart the thickness of the plates desired, into a mass of artificial resin in the liquid phase and subsequently heating to the hardening temperature. The metal sheets may be of zig-zag or other section to produce plates which can be readily cut into rods &c., and may be parallel or inclined to one another. By withdrawing the plates after gelatinization, the spaces may be filled with a liquid of a different colour to obtain patterned products. Small articles e.g. umbrella handles are given a clouded or mottled appearance by filling a mould about one-third with clouded liquid material and pressing in a solid block to displace the material.
