Abstract

371,344. Moulding articles from artificial resin. HEROLD AKT.-GES., 30, Hufnerstrasse, Hamburg, Germany. Jan. 16, 1931, No. 1571. Convention date, Feb. 25, 1930. [Class 87 (ii).] Objects, such as closet seats or troughs for washing films, are formed from phenol-f ormaldehyde artificial resin by subjecting plates of the resin in the C-stage to die pressing in a warm condition. A plate c of resin in the C-stage is warmed in an oil bath at a temperature above 70‹ C. and is then pressed into a die b by a ram a, an air space d being provided into which the plate can expand during the pressing. The mould is preferably of wood. The shaped lower part of the ram a may be a removable wood foundation coated with glue so that the resin object may be shaped and attached to such wood foundation in one operation. Alternatively the resin plate may be glued to a wooden core and shaped by pressing in warm mould-sand.
