Abstract

303,088. British Celanese, Ltd., Dickie, W. A., Latham, L., and Platts, T. H. Sept. 28, 1927. Pirns 11 used in shuttles are provided with a light ring 5 of brass, steel or other metal &c. floating between the flanges, ends or shoulders 3, 5 of a neck 2, of brass, steel, &c., which may be integral with the pirn, or, as shown, may be made in two parts screwed to the pirn. The ring controls the ballooning and moves up to one shoulder &c. or the other according to the direction of travel of the shuttle. The yarn tension may be varied according to the weight of the ring and the clearance between it and the neck, and' according to the chamfering of the shoulders. The neck may be cylindrical or be concave or inwardly shaped.
