This invention relates generally to the spinning art and particularly to certain new and useful improvements in thetravelers used on spinning machines. I
It has for one of its objects to provide a traveler which is so designed as to provide for uniformity of thread tension at all times and to redues to a minimum the chafing or slivering of the threads during the spinning operation.
Another object of the invention is to provide a traveler which is designed to have the correct weight and surface contour or area so as not to disturb the uniformity of the thread tension and which at the same time is of such thickness as to possess sufilcient yieldability to be sprung on the spinning ring.
Other features of the invention reside in the design and construction of the traveler hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.

Figure 1 is a sectional elevation of a bobbin-and spinning ring showing my improved traveler associated therewith, the traveler being of the angular type. Figure 2 is an enlarged cross section of the traveler. Figures 3 and 4 are sectional elevations showing the invention embodied in the vertical type and c-type of traveler, respectively. Figure 5 is an enlarged cross section of a modification of the traveler.
Similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views.
By way of example, my invention has been shown in connection with three types of travelers, the angular type. the vertical type, and the O-type, and in the drawing these three types of travelers are indicated generally by the numerals I 0, II, and i2, respectively. The take-up spool is indicated by the numeral i3 and the rings, in each case, may be of any suitable construction and are indicated by the numeral H.
Inasmuch as the construction of these three types of travelers is the same, insofar as my invention pertains thereto, a description of one of them will suflice for all. Contrasted with the wire type of traveler or travelers made from wire, this improved traveler is heavier and wider to insure uniformity of thread tension at any speed, and
contrasted with travelers made from flat stock it is so shaped at its edges as to minimize the chafing or slivering of the thread. To this end the traveler is preferably of the cross section shown in Figure 2, its body is of greater width than thickness and the contour of the inner surface of the traveler is substantially convex, as indicated at i5, while the opposite side edges thereof are well curved or rounded toward the outer surface of the traveler as indicated at I6. This contour of the traveler not only affords an extensive bearing surface for the thread but the rounded .edges provide a continuously smooth surface regardless of the angle of the thread in traveling between the bobbin and the traveler or between the latter and the feed rolls of the spinning machine. The outer face of the traveler between its curved edges may be concave as indicated at H. y In the modified form of the traveler shown in Figure 5, it is substantially flat-sided through its web portion, as indicated at i8, while its oppositeslde edges are fully curved or rounded, as indicated at I9,-for the purpose above set forth.
v The traveler made in accordance with my invention has the necessary weight and balance to produce threads of uniform quality and the iully rounded edges reduce to a minimum any tendency to disturb the evenness of the tension as well as prevent any chafing or slivering oi the threads. Furthermore, while possessing the proper weight for efflcient operation, the traveler is still light enough and of a thickness to possess sumcient yieldability to be sprung on the spinning ring.
I claim as my invention: A traveler for spinning rings bent to provide an upper thread-engaging portion, a lower ring-engaging foot, and an intermediate ring-bearing portion, said portions being of a continuous uniform concave-convex shape in cross section and of a uniform thickness and of substantially greater width than thickness, the,edges of such portions being fully rounded from the inside to the outside surface thereoi. to provide a smooth, full sweep thread-engaging surface and to reduce the wind-resistance to the movement of the traveler to a minimum.
