Abstract
302,756. Smith, W. Oct. 15, 1927. Valves controlled by pilot or relay valves.-In apparatus for controlling the flow of liquids to maintain a constant level in a vessel, such as a tank, boiler, &c., in which hydraulically supply valves are controlled by a pair of float-controlled relay valves, the connections between the float C and the valves A, B are, such that these valves are operated in succession. The float C is pivotally suspended at F' on a link F<2> depending from a bracket E<4> and the valves A, B are connected by links G, J to points F<4>, J<1> below and above the pivot F<1>, respectively. As the liquid level falls the float lowers on its fulcrum F<1> and closes the valve A thereby restricting the escape of operating fluid from one of the supply valve units and causing that supply valve to close and cut down half the total supply. On further lowering of the water level the fulcrum of the float is transferred to the pivot F' and the float closes the valve B and thereby the remaining supply valve unit. Instead of the pivoted link F<2>, the fulcrum of the float may be made an easy fit in its housing to provide for the same action.
