Fluid actuation.- Apparatus for automatically operating valves, electric switches, belt-shifting gears, clutches, &c., at predetermined intervals by a continuous stream of running water comprises a multiple way cock actuated by a swinging lever having at each end an opentopped bucket which is alternately filled. and emptied, the flow of water being diverted from one bucket to the other bv the movement of the lever. Switches, clutches, &c. are operated through a fluid relay controlled by the multiple way cock. The lever 20 is secured to the plug oi a three-way cock 4 and carries buckets 15 which have an outlet valve 18 which is opened when the bucket rests on the bottom of the casing 17. An arm 24 pivoted on the casing and carrying a flexible pipe 23 is swung from side to side by an arm 27 on the lever 20 and has its movement controlled by stops 29, 30 and made positive by weights 28. A balanced position of the buckets is prevented by weights 32 on an arm 31 which swings with the lever 20. Adjustment of the ratio of the times that the buckets remain in the upper posi. tion is effected by a weight 33 on the lever 20. To check its descent each bucket raises during the last part of its fall a weight 34 carried by a rocking arm 41 which moves between plates 43 carrying adjustable stops 45 and which has a pin 40 engaging a slotted link 36 provided with adjustable stops 38, 39 and connected to The lever 20 by an arm 35.
