301,944. Bell, L. H. Bainbridge-. Aug. 9, 1927. Course indicators.-Apparatus for indicating or recording the direction in which a vehicle is moving comprises a spherical member 9 arranged with its centre on the vertical pivot-axis 3 of one of the steering road-wheels 1 and geared to the wheel so as to rotate about a horizontal axis 18. The sphere engages a friction disc 10 on one end of a shaft 13 the other end of which operates a pointer &c. 16. When the vehicle is moving along a straight line the plane of the wheel 10 contains the axis 18 and the wheel is consequently not turned. Departure from a straight path causes the wheel 10 to be rotated and the pointer 16 actuated. The sphere 9 may be arranged to be rotated slowly about an axis at an angle to the axis 18 so as to vary its point of contact with the friction disc.
