Abstract

301,553. Sulman, H. L., and Picard, H. F. K. June 13, 1927. Ammonium thiostannate. - Tin is extracted from ores such. as cassiterite and from other tinbearing materials such as scrap tinned steel by treatment with a sulphidizing agent at say 750- 850‹ C. to convert the tin to a soluble sulphide without substantial volatilization thereof and leaching out the sulphide formed, as with ammonium sulphide containing free sulphur. From the solution obtained ammonium sulphide may be recovered for re-use by distillation, with precipitation of stannic sulphide.
