Abstract

300,498. Associated Telephone & Telegraph Co., (Assignees of Sengebusch, H.). Nov. 12, 1927, [Convention date]. Impulse-transmitters.-An impulse transmitter of the finger-hold type comprises concentric dials controlling separate mechanisms for sending different maximum numbers of impulses. An inner dial (not shown) sends up to ten impulses in the usual way, while an outer dial sends up to 25 impulses and is used for dialling single code digits for frequently-wanted calls over a separate circuit to a register-translator as in Specification 300,497. The outer dial 3, Fig. 4, is fixed to a ring 35 running on ball-bearings around a ring 38 attached to a base-plate 7. The inner edge 42 of the dial overlaps a dust-cover 39 on the ring 38. When the dial 3 is turned it rotates, through gearing 36, 28, 25, a shaft 24 against a spring 47. A pawl 29 on the gear-wheel 25 rides over a ratchet wheel 27 during the setting movement. The ratchet 27 is rotatably mounted on the shaft 24 and is connected to a gear 26, which is in mesh with the drive 22, 21, 15 of a governor 16. When the spring returns the dial, t'he pawl 29 rotates the ratchet 27 so that the governor controls the speed of return. During the return, a cam 20 on the shaft 19 of gear-wheel 22 acts upon the impulse-springs 44 in the usual way to send impulses over the special circuit to the register-translator. When the dial 3 is off-normal, a stop-lever 31, Figs. 2 and 3, is removed from engagement with the pawl 29 under the influence of spring contacts 45, so that the pawl may act freely ; when however the dial approaches normal, a projection 56, Fig. 3, on the ring 35 engages a bent finger 32<1> on the stoplever 31 to force it against the pawl 29 and so act as a positive stop for the dial. The wheel 28 is mounted on the plate 7, but the remaining mechanism is mounted on a removable plate 12 mounted on posts 8, 10 on the base-plate 7. The governor-spindle is mounted in adjustable bearings.
