Abstract

299,883. Bundy, H. W. Nov. 4. 1927, [Convention date]. Cased or compound forms: tubes.- Tubing is made of more than one thickness of multiply metal at least one of which is non-corrodible. In an example multiply stock 1, Fig. 1, consisting preferably of two plies of metal united by a layer of solder, is drawn from a supply 5 through a solder bath 6 to a battery of forming rolls arranged as shown in Figs. 6- 10, then to a sweating die 11 which melts the solder and causes the layers to adhere after which the tube is passed through sizing dies 12, and a cooling water bath 13. Stock for a radiator tube or for a gasoline line may have copper or brass on one side and steel on the other, the non- corrodible copper or brass being on the inside. When it is desired to make a tube with one surface free from solder, the stock is treated with solder on one side only. A suitable form of tube is shown in section in Fig. 13.
