Abstract
299,881. Aktiebolaget Separator. Nov. 4, 1927, [Convention date]. Vacuum engines. -In milking-machine pulsators wherein the movement of the member J which effects the pulsations is controlled by a pneumatic braking mechanism, t h i s mechanism comprises two chambers U. X entirely shut off from the exterior atmosphere but communicating with each other by a narrow preferably regulatable connection, one of the chambers being bounded by a movable membrane T to which the member J is connected. The connection between the chambers is provided by openings V and by grooves Z, a in the rod J. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, the rod J is secured to a doubleacting membrane B and extended to carry a piston P working within a cylinder R; the passages I, S are connected respectively to vacuum and to the teat cups or a secondary pulsator, and a channel O communicates with the outer atmosphere. With the parts in the position indicated, the chamber C by its port E has been connected to the atmosphere by a slide valve H and the chamber D is connected to vacuum through the port F; the teat cups or the secondary pulsator are or is also connected to vacuum through a passage s. The greater pressure in the chamber C will new cause, the membranes and the rod J to move over towards the right, but owing to the ungrooved portion of the red J coming into engagement with the wall Y this movement is impeded until the grooves a reach the wall when the two chambers U, X are again freely connected. Towards the end of the movement the slide valve is moved over to the right by the engagement of a cross-piece or abutment K with an abutment N. A two-armed lever or rack- and-pinion gearing may be employed to give a considerable movement to the abutment K. The membrane B may be single-acting, a tension spring being used to keep it normally in its position to the right. The chamber U may be of bellows construction and the chamber X be bounded outwardly by a flexible wall. Specification 286,671, [Class 84, Milking &c.], is referred to.
