Abstract

298,868. Larsson, S. April 13, 1928. Cutting-edges, treating; feed devices.-In a machine for sharpening safety razor blades in which the blades are carried by an endless belt or chain to the sharpening-device, the blades are fed automatically from a pile on to the belt. The belt 1 has thereon pins 2 to engage the holes in the blade, and as the belt moves, slots therein engage and rotate a sprocket wheel 5 mounted on a shaft 6, on which also are rotatably mounted levers 8, 13, the lever 8 also being movable on a pivot 10 towards and from the lever 13, under the control of a spring 15 and a guide arm 12. On the face of the wheel 5 are teeth 19 which engage and move the lever S against the action of a spring 17. The lever is engaged by a member 23 carried by a rod 21 slidable in guides 22, 22<1>. the member 23 being pulled to the left, Fig. 1, by springs 25, and the rod 21 carries a slide 24 which engages the lowermost blade in a weighted pile 29 contained in a magazine 30. Upon movement of the levers 8, 13 to the left by means of the teeth 19, the member 23 is pulled by its springs and the slide pushes the blade into a channel 28 until the foremost hole in the blade, which is inclined to the belt 1. is engaged by the pin 2<1> on the belt, when the member 23 engages a stop 27. The blade is then pulled forward by the belt and is pressed thereon, to engage also the next pin 2, by a spring- pressed guide 33. Upon the lever 8 reaching the end of its stroke, it is moved laterally by a cam 35 to disengage the teeth 19 and is moved back, until the member 23 engages a stop 26, by the spring 17; the operation is then repeated. In a modification, the wheel 5 is driven by one of the sprocket wheels driving the belt 1, and the feeding stroke of the plunger is positive, the springs 25 causing its return; the blades are fed on to the belt where it runs over its driving- sprocket.
