Eggs, cleaning. - Apparatus for cleaning eggs comprises a container 3<a> for water or other cleansing fluid, a rotating cleaning member 5 preferably above the container, a support 15 for the cleaned eggs, adjacent to the container, and means for circulating heated air to dry the eggs on the support. In Fig. 1, the apparatus is shown with duplicate parts A and B. The container 3a is over a compartment 3<b> which contains the heating means, e.g., a lamp 19, the heated air warming the water in the container 3a and passing through an opening 3<c> into an inclined extension 14 of the casing 3, whereby it drys the eggs on the support 15. The rotary member 5 is operated by a treadle 13, pulleys 8, 10 and belt 9. The inner face carries a sponge or circular brush 6. The eggs are placed in the container 3a for a preliminary soaking. They are then held by hand against the rotary cleaner, water being allowed to drip on to the egg from a pipe 23 connected through a valve 24 to a reservoir 22. The water in the container 3<a> is drawn off at a corresponding rate through a cock 25. The support 15 for the cleaned eggs comprises a number of lengths of track such as used with tov railways. The eggs are temporarily retained on the tracks by a pivoted transverse bar 16 which is normally positioned by stops 17 on the member 14 and is periodically raised to allow the eggs to roll over blotting paper or other absorbent material 18. The Provisional Specification states also that the container is preferably divided into internal compartments so that the eggs may be graded or separated prior to soaking, and a shelf is provided at the back of the apparatus to receive packing boxes.
