Abstract

297,819. Oryx Fabrics Corporation, (Assignees of Smith, P. S.). Sept. 29, 1927, [Convention date]. Addition to 295;323. Pile fabrics.-The Specification describes the same method of and the same apparatus for making pile fabrics that are described in the parent Specification, and also describes further apparatus suitable for making rugs or carpets. A chase, form, or mould 11, Figs. 10 and 12, having inclined " wires " 16 or separators arranged in a single plane is mounted in a carriar 148 adapted to be traversed to the right continuously by screw gearing and to be brought within the range of the loop-forming mechanism 13 comprising blades 20, 24 and presscr-feet 26, 22 as described in the parent Specification. The loop-forming mechanism is adapted to move with the carrier 148 during the formation of the loops by cam-worked levers 168, 170 pivoted to the frame at 172, 170 and connected by links 192 to the mechanism 13. The loop-forming blades and presser-feet are mounted between guides 218, 220 and are reciprocated by cranks 210 on the camshaft 158 for operating the levers 168, 170. The shaft 158 is driven from a pulley-driven shaft 128, which is geared to the traversing-screw 138 for the carrier 148, by chain gearing 200, a spring- controlled jockey 240 being provided to keep the chain taut. Instead of a single chase 11, means may. be provided for feeding a series of chases into the machine, or an endless conveyer having chases provided with separators or wires may be employed to enable the machine to work continuously. In some cases, the loop-forming mechanism moves over a stationary chase, or it may be entirely stationary, the necessary motion then being given to the chase.
