Abstract

Angular bending: mandrels.-A tube is bent without any filling of sand &c. by a lever a which pivots along an axis e on the jig u the lever carrying a grooved wheel b to give exterior pressure and also carrying a frame g, Fig. 4, pivoted to the lever by the pin f the centre portion J of the frame being slid inside the tube until the hardened steel ball k at its end is at the part of the tube where the bend is to be made. Pressure on the lever a then bends the tube, the ball inside preventing kinking and also effecting a drawing action from the inside. Other swellings may be formed on the rod J with the final hardened ball pivoted at the end for longer bends. For bending oval or D section tube the internal piece is of that shape also. The tube is placed in a groove on the jig u and held down by a clamp t.
