Abstract

22,185. Roeder, J. Oct. 8. Metal pipes and tubes. -A loose flange is secured on a metal tube by beadings formed on each side of the flange. The tnbe a is held in a suitable vice c having a recess m, so that part of the tube near one end projects, the other end bearing against a suitable stop d. The loose flange e is placed in position on the projecting part of the tube which is heated, and a loose ring-die f is placed on the end of the tube. A plunger g having a mandrel d<1> which enters the tube compresses the latter longitudinally, so forming the beadings k, l as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2. The finished tube and the die f are removed from the mandrel by a stripping-ring i. The mandrel d<1> may be slightly larger than the tube, thus expanding the latter so that it grips the ring e, preventing its accidental displacement before the beadings are formed.
