Luggage holders; receptacles, detachably securing to running-boards.-A luggage and like carrier particularly for use on a motor vehicle comprises a skeleton or other open-ended box or framework 5, 6, 13, 14 into the open end of which the luggage &c. is adapted to be inserted, clamping means comprising at least one bar 18 adjustable on parallel rods for securing the luggage in position in the box or framework, means for locking the clamp in clamping position, and means for fixing the box or framework to the running-board of a motor-car or other support. In the construction shown the article or articles of luggage 20, are inserted into the framework through its open upper end, and the clamping-bar 18 is adjusted by means of a pair of rotatable rods 15 having at one end screw-threaded portions 16 engaging the bar 18 and at the other end cranked operating- handles 17, one at least of which is engageable by an L-shaped locking-member 21. To the lower short sides 6 of the framework are attached U-shaped members 7 of channel section adapted by means of clamping-bolts 10 with operating- handles 12, to secure the framework to the running-board 9. The ends of the locking-member 21 are provided with apertured lugs 22 adapted to engage over the ends of the operating-handles 12, 17, while its central part has an aperture 24 fitting over an apertured lug 25, the aperture 26 of which receives a padlock 27 whereby the locking-member 21 and clamping-bar 18 are fixed in position.
