Abstract

296,647. Pickard, W., and Spencer, R. March 26, 1928. Indicators. - Lightning conductors include in a bye-pass circuit an indicator to show when a charge has passed. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 3, the indicator consists of a fuse i contained in a box h with a transparent cover or other inspection means. The fuse is connected to the main conductor b by leads f<1>, f<2>, which may be formed by one of the strands in the case of a stranded conductor. A coil j may be included in the main circuit. In a modification, Fig. 6, the indicator may consist of a warning signal which is normally covered by a plate q mounted on a spring-actuated spindle r and retained in the closed position by a latch o. An electromagnet m is provided in the bye-pass circuit, and, on the passage of a lightning discharge, releases the latch and allows the cover plate to swing up and display the signal.
