Abstract

234,788. Fleissner, H. May 31, 1924, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Act]. Liquid-level indicators, applications of. - In order to indicate that the electrolyte of an accumulator, particularly of the alkaline type, is at the correct level, one or two electrodes 1, 2 are suspended in the accumulator and are connected to an external circuit including a battery B and indicating means such as a bell L or lamp G. The circuit is completed when the electrolyte makes contact with the electrodes 1, 2. When only one electrode is employed, as in Fig. 3, the circuit through the indicator G is completed through the casing of the accumulator. The electrodes may be suspended in the accumulator during testing or may form a permanent part of the accumulator. In the latter case the electrodes may be suspended from an insulating plug 3 in the filling aperture as shown in Fig. 1. In the form shown in Fig. 3, the electrode 1 is attached to or forms a part of the bushing 8 for the closing cap 9 and is insulated from the casing bv the cover 10. If the cover is of metal the bushing is separated therefrom by insulating washers. In a further modification, the electrode 1 has an extension passing through an opening in the cell cover which is separated from the extension by insulating washers.
