Abstract
295,978. Chapman, W. M. May 19, 1927. Stands or supports for vehicles.- A lifting appliance for raising motor vehicles &c. to facilitate repairs &c. comprises a pair of tracks mounted on a movable frame guided between uprights and adapted to be raised by means of motor actuated winch mechanism. The tracks 15 for the vehicle wheels are fitted with pivoted end ramps 17 and are transversely mounted on channel members 13 adapted to rest when in the lowered position on channel members 6 of the frame 5 which, is provided at its corners with pillars 8. The channel members 13 have brackets 19 carrying guide rollers 21 fitting against the pillars 8, and cables 22 are adjustably connected to the brackets and pass over pulleys 12 on the tops of the pillars to winch drums 11 on the frame, the winch drums being mounted on shafts 10 carrying worm wheels 26 engaging worm gearing on a shaft 28 which is driven by an electric motor 29 through gearing 30. A reversing double pole switch 34, Fig. 5, for controlling the motor circuit is connected by linkage 38<1> to a sliding rod 36 carrying stops 38 adapted to be engaged at the upper and lower limits of travel of the movable platform by an arm 40 projecting from the platform, so as to break the circuit and stop the motor. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 255,316.
