March 17, 1927, Complex metallic compounds of pyrocatechin sulphonic and carboxylic acids and pyrogallol sutphonic acids. - Soluble complex metallic compounds are prepared by interaction of an oxide, hydroxide or carbonate of a metal with an alkali metal, ammonium or amine salt of a pyrocatechin sulphonic acid. a pyrocatechin carboxylic acid or a. pyrogallol sulphonic acid. The alkali and alkaline earth metals are excluded .but arsenic and the like are included; in the case of pyrocatechin sulphonic and carboxylic acids, antimony and bismuth are also excluded. To obtain neutral products of special therapeutic value, the addition of an alkali, ammonia or an amine may be necessary. From a single metal, various complex compounds can be obtained, according to the amount of the metallic compound present. The amine salts are those of ethylamine, benzylamine and the like, but not of a purely aromatic amine such as aniline. Examples are given of the preparation of the copper, arsenic, cadmium, manganese, tin, chromium and vanadium compounds of the pyrocatechin disulphonic acid obtained by sulphonating pyrocatechin with oleum; of the copper, aluminium, ferrous and ferric compounds of the pyrocatechin monosulphonic acid obtained by treating pyrocatechin with sulphuric acid: of the: copper, ferrous, ferric, and tin compounds of protocatechuic acids: of the antimony, bismuth. tin, cadmium, vanadium, manganese and lead compounds of the pyrogallol disulphonic acid obtained by antimonv compound of with oleum: and of the antimony compound of the pyrogallol monosulphonic acid obtained by the, treatment of pyrogallol with sulphuric acid. Gold and zinc are also mentioned as suitable metals. Specification 213,285 is referred to.
