Abstract

295,556. Seifert, P. Feb. 14, 1928. Chain - stitching.- In a machine for s e w i n g together pieces of material, by chain stitches, for dyeing, bleaching or similar operations, the looper operating mechanism comprises two cams on the driving shaft, one for oscillating the looper and the other for imparting the needleavoiding movement. The looper 6 is carried by an L-shaped carrier having arms 10 and 11, rigidly mounted on the spring-pressed shaft 8. The arms carry anti-friction balls 13, 12. A lever 15 is mounted to rotate, but not slides, on the shaft 8 and is provided with an antifriction ball 16 in the same plane, perpendicular to the axis of the shaft, as the ball 12. The looper driving shaft 7 has two cams 21, 22, the cam 21 engaging the ball 13 to oscillate the looper and the cam 22 engaging the ball 16 to rock the lever 15 and cause its recess 17 to coact with the tooth 18 on the fixed bracket 19 to give the sideways movement to the shaft and looper. The cam 22 also engages the ball 12 to keep the ball 13 on the surface of the cam 21.
