Abstract

295,132. Whittle, O. L. Aug. 18, 1927. Variable - speed friction gearing of the kind described in Specification 256,349 and comprising interpenetrating tapering plates and engaging members such as 7 is modified in that the said members, which must be free to slide on their shaft 3, instead of being feathexed are threaded upon rods 8 carried by the shalt. The rods 8 may be secured at their ends in flange members 4 secured at 6 to the shaft 3. The axial resilient thrust the plates &c. may be produced by springs 10 upon the rods 8 as well as upon the shaft 3.
