Abstract

295,044. international General Electric Co., Inc., (Assignees of Allgemeine Elektricitõts-Ges.). Aug. 4, 1927, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. Regulating transformers.-In a variable ratio transformer in which the tap-changing switches are associated with a pair of choke coils e, f of relatively variable inductance for diverting current from one tap to the next, the inductance of the choke coils is varied by varying inversely the numbers of turns on a pair of opposed secondary windings k, l associated with the choke coils. For example, the voltage applied to a motor d by an auto-transformer a, b is increased by (1) moving the contact n to the top position, thus increasing the number of turns in the winding l and decreasing the number of turns in the opposed winding k, thereby causing current to be diverted from tap c1 to tap c2, (2) opening switch (3) connecting coil e to contact c3, (4) moving contact n downwardly to divert current from tap c2 to tap c3.
