Abstract
295,019. Flettner, A. Aug. 5, 1927, [Convention date]. Ventilators.-An air extracting or supplying ventilator for vehicles comprises a fan arranged within or adjacent to an opening 12 in the vehicle roof or wall 11 and mounted on the same shalt as a rotor 27, 28 operated by the movement of the vehicle and a bell-shaped housing 15 disposed externally of the opening and between the said fan and rotor. A ring 22 is mounted around the opening 12 so as to overlap slightly the rim 16 of the housing 15 and provide an annular opening, such ring carrying bearings 50 for the fan spindle by means of struts 60. The fan 13 may be mounted either below the bearing 50 and in the aperture 12, or above the bearing and in the hood 15, 16. The fan may be of centrifugal type 14, Fig. 4, mounted with its vanes 31 on the disc 15 or an a second disc disposed adjacent thereto. In the form shown in Fig. 3, the hood carries the bearings 50 and is therefore stationary, but in the construction shown in Figs. 1 and 4 the hood is rotatable by the wind, blades 27, 28 being mounted on the upper face of the hood, with or without a stationary or rotatable top plate 43, Fig. 4. The blades 27, 28 are of curved form and provide passages of greatest width at the outer periphery. The ring 22, Fig. 4, may have an upwardly inclined upper face 24 and holes 64 may be provided in such face for inserting securing screws into the fixing holes 62 in the lower flange of the ring. The struts 60, which may be of stream-lined cross section, are curved so as to deflect the air current.
