294,314. Borland, G., and Muir, H. M. May 13,1927. Lace.-Relates to the production on curtain machines of filet net or other lace with coloured pattern effects or designs clothed therein. Two fully-threaded guide bars d<1>, e<1> containing coloured threads d, e are located behind the filet net and the warp bars c<1>, a'. The threads d, e are placed only where they are required to form the pattern, the remaining spaces being filled with white or coloured threads k. The threads d, e are caused to cloth or to float as required by jacquard selection of the corresponding jacks i which act at each half motion between the first and second movements of the guide bars d<1>, e<1>. The bars a<1>, c<1> are operated as usual. The cards are so punched as to cause the threads e to pillar at the places where the threads d form a pattern but where the threads e form a pattern, the threads d may float or may be tied in as shown at l, m. Where neither thread forms a pattern both float as shown at d<2>, e<2>. These floats are subsequently removed. Methods of drafting the point paper from which the cards are prepared by the use of several colours are described. In modified methods of working each thread may be caused to float when not forming a pattern but the bars d<1>, e' require to be on the outside of the bars a<1>, c<1> and the floats lie on both sides of the lace. The patterned areas made from the threads d, e may coincide.
