Razors, safety.-A safety razor has a frame.1, a blade holder 4 pivoted at 6 and adapted to swing between the frame arms 1<b>, and a guard 12 pivoted at 13 to the frame 1. Pivoted at 16 to the guard 12 is a retainer 14 having a bentin projection 14<11> and a slot 14<1> engaging a pin 15 fixed to one of the arms 1<b>. The guard 12 has a slotted finger piece 12<a>, and a curved portion 12<b> engaging frictionally a curved surface 1<c> on base 1<a> of the frame 1. The blade holder consists of plate members 4<a>, 4<b>, Fig. 9<a>, pivoted together at 4<11>, the part 4<a> having projections 4<d> engaging holes in the blade 5, and the member 4<b> having a recessed part 4<c> covering the projections 4<d> and a clip 4<c> holding the parts together. Fixed to the pivot pin 6 of the holder 4 is a pinion 8 gearing with a pinion 9 fixed to a roller 10 pivoted between the frame arms 1<b>. When arranged for shaving, the guard 12 is moved so that stops 12<1>, Fig. 1, thereon, engage the blade-holder 4 and a projection 4@f on the latter engage the roller 10. To strop the razor blade the guard 12 is detached from the bladeholder 4 thus causing the projection 14<11> to move clear of the path of the latter as this swings in opposite directions between the arms 1<b> when the roller 10 is reciprocated on a strop 11, Fig. 3. When not in use the razor is folded as shown in Fig. 2, the retainer 14 being moved automatically by the guard 12 so that the projection 14<11> bears against the blade holder 4 where the latter projects behind one end of the blade. In a modification the guard 12, Fig. 10, has flat parts 18 engaging the ends of a flat spring 19 secured to the frame 1. The retainer is pivoted to one of the frame arms 1<b> and is adapted tn be engaged by a projection 17 on the guard 12 for moving it in and out of engagement with the blade-holder 4.
