Abstract
313,048. De Haven Razor Corporation, (Assignees of Haven, H. de). June 5, 1928, [Convention date]. Stropping-apparatus; hones. - A safety razor containing a blade and a blade-edging element consists of a handle 1 having upright portions 4, riveted together in spaced relationship, upper parts 5, and arms 6. Between the portions 4 is pivoted at 10 a stem 9 having parallel portions 11 between which is movable a link 12, pivoted at 13 and slotted to receive a pin 14 whereby the movement of the stem is limited. The stem 9 has mounted thereon, by a pivot 21 allowing the element to adjust itself to the blade edge, a plate 7 which carries the sharpening-element 8, the forward edge of the plate 7 being formed with guard teeth 18. The element 8 is held in position by a member 26, secured to the plate 7 and having a retaining member 27 and a stop 28 to engage the element 8, which has two wing-like members 22, 23. The element 8 is formed of resilient metal and the bend 24 may have notches 25; either member 22, 23 may be inserted beneath the member 27 so that both surfaces of the element may be used. The surfaces of the element may be burnished, sand blasted, indented, or plated or covered with soft metal, which also may be indented; sharpening-compound may be applied to the element. The blade 30, Fig. 14, has a backing 31, gripping the blades at its ends and having connections 32 holding the blade; the surfaces of the connections 32 engaging the blade may be flat or may be rounded to leave the blade flexible. The ends of the blade and of the backing 31 are rounded as shown in Fig. 14. The blade holder 2 is pivotally mounted on a rod 53 secured to the arms 6, and comprises a part 47, which grips the bevelled ends 48 of the parts 32 of the blade, and a part 50 with a lip 51 which engages the backing 31 of the blade, a spring 52 struck up from the holder pressing the backing 31 against the lip 51. The rod 53 is formed with a round part 58 and a flat part 59, so arranged that the blade is pressed against the element 8, in the shaving position, and when the holder is swung into a raised position by a finger-piece 66, the parts of the holder are spread to allow the blade to be slid out of the holder, and to allow of cleaning. Projections 68 on the plate 7 are arranged to engage the parts 5, to position the blade edge with respect to the guard teeth. In operation for sharpening, the sharpening-element is oscillated about the pivot 10, with the blade edge in contact with the element 8.
