Erecting posts.-Means for erecting the pole of elevating gear for agricultural use, e.g. for building haystacks, of the kind in which a vertical pole carries, at its upper end, a pulley over which the elevating rope passes, or which supports a jib with pulleys for the elevating rope, comprise an erecting jib fitted to the pole near its lower end, the free end of the jib being stayed to the upper end of the pole. The pole is then erected by connecting the free end of the jib to pulley-blocks or a crab or winding engine. In the preferred form, a crab is fitted on the jib for hauling on the erecting rope. In the embodiment, a pole A is fitted near its lower end with an erecting jib B, the free end of the jib B being linked to the pole A by a stay D which may be one of the guy ropes employed to maintain the pole in erect position, or, as shown, the jib elevating rope. The jib B is vertical when the pole A is in a horizontal position, and the jib B may be guyed by ropes E. The pole A is erected by a haulage rope attached to the free end of the jib B and connected to pulley-blocks or the drum of a crab or winding engine. In the preferred form shown, the jib B carries a crab having a barrel G on which a haulage rope F is wound, the barrel G being rotated by a crank handle H. The rope F, passing over a pulley J at the free end of the jib B, is anchoerd to the ground. The jib B may be adapted for use as part of the elevating gear.
