Abstract

292,819. Elliot, G., and Lowe & Co., Ltd., W. Oct. 3, 1927. Stuffing-box joints.-In a tyrepump connector of the kind shown, the usual elastic tubular member 17 is provided with a portion intermediate its ends which is unsupported internally and externally so that when compressed axially it tends to buckle and form a ridge or ridges which tightly grip the valve stem 2. The rubber member 17 is housed in an internally-threaded sleeve 3 which also receives a cap 5, and the head 9 of the nipple member 10 to which the end of the flexible tubing 1 is attached, the cap 5 and head 9 being provided with an annular recess 16 and a boss 20 respectively to position the ends of the member 17. The lower end of the rubber member is provided with a metal cap 18, while the said member is preferably compressed by rotation of the sleeve 3.
