Strainer separators.-The drum of a centrifugal machine for extracting liquid from chemical salts, sugar, or the like has a number of scoop-shaped curved plates a on its outer wall. They are secured to the wall at their ends, and are secured intermediately to the strengthening rings c. The holes g in the drum wall for the passage of liquid are bored obliquely as shown in Fig. 2. The low pressure, which exists during rotation in the spaces b between the drum wall and the plates a., assists the passage of the liquid. The diameters of the holes g may increase from above downwards in the drum, or the number of holes may increase regularly from above downwards.
