Skips.-In a bottom-discharge skip a for mine shafts, the bottom of the skip is formed by an inclined face b and an inclined door c pivoted at its lower end at d to act as a discharge shoot. and the door c is connected at its upper end to the body of the skip by a link and a radius rod. When the door is closed the joint between the link and the radius rod passes beyond the dead centre locking the door in the closed position. As the door opens, material begins to move downwards before the commencement of discharge. The door c may comprise surfaces b<1>, b<2>, c<1>, c<2>, of different inclination, as shown in Fig. 4, or it may be curved so that the front edge of the discharge opening may be raised without reducing the capacity of the skip.
