292,006. Braithwaite & Co. Engineers, Ltd., and Humphryes, J. H. Oct. 22, 1927. Shafts and tunnels. - Linings for shafts, tunnels, &c. are built of plates. with deep peripheral flanges, two opposite flanges being inclined to the plate at less than a right angle. As shown. each plate has a dished or domed base a, side flanges b being bent at right angles and having the ends d turned in, while end flanges c are bent up at less than a right angle to the base and secured to the ends d by rivets e. The corners f of the plates are preferably welded. The free edges of the flanges are straight. In erecting, packing g is placed between the meeting flanges. Plates of adjacent rings are staggered.
