Abstract
291,460. Barthelmess, E. June 4, 1927, [Convention date]. Impact pulverizers.- A process for grinding, crushing, &c. consists in charging material through an inlet 23, Fig. 4, into one or more chambers 8, 9 shaped like a spiral or screw-thread. and admitting a gaseous or liquid stream through inlets 21, 22 to force the material through the chamber whereby the material is disintegrated against the walls. The grinding chamber is composed of corundum, carborundum, porcelain &c. and is built up of superposed segments to form a continuous helical conduit and in Fig. 4, two such conduits are shown arranged concentrically. The material fed through the inlet 23 is split up into two portions by means of an annular partition 17 which also separates the liquid or gas entering at 21 and passing through the chamber 8 from that entering at 22 and passing through the chamber 9. The two currents unite at a depression 28 formed in the base and flow upwards through the centre 11 to impinge on an impact plate 26 where the coarse particles are diverted back to the chambers 8, 9 for regrinding and the finest particles as well as the grits are carried upwards into a sifter 18, 19 where the grits, after passing through apertures 20, are deposited in the bottom of the cone 19 to be returned into the inlet 23 with the fresh material, and the fine particles are carried off through the aperture 29 to a powder collector. More than one grinding cylinder 30, 33, Fig. 6, may communicate with a common sifter 34, the material to be ground being fed in at 35, 36 and liquid or gaseous conveying material may enter through a common conduit 37. Specification 251,665 is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also a horizontal arrangement of grinding cylinders in Figs. 7 and 8 (Cancelled). This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
