Abstract

Machinery frames; turbines. - In a casing structure having spaced walls, a bracing member between the wadls comprises telescoping parts united d by fusion of metal and having their ends embedded in the walls. The application to the formation of a turbine exhaust hood 5 is described, the walls 6 - - 9 being braced d by struts 10 - - 15. The braces consist of studs 16 which telescope into tubes 17. They are placed in the mould for the casing with the studs projecting so that they become embedded in the walls when the casing is cast. The ends of the studs may be corrugated at 18. After the cast casing has cooled or has been annealed, the studs 10 are united to the tubes 17 by welding at 19.
