Abstract

291,066. Abrahams, J. May 27, 1927, [Convention date]. Mirrors; buttons. - Mirrors 32 or button parts are backed in a press having a plunger 8 actuated by a hand cam 7 and co-operating with dies mounted on a base 2. The die assemblage comprises a fixed member 13 on which a work-holder 15 may slide, against the pressure of a spring 18. A plunger 24 provided with a head 27 and permanently connected, with a limited range of axial movement, to a sleeve 29 is adapted to coact with the lower die. The mirror backing 43 is placed on a die 21 and a celluloid cover 45 with an ornamental paper insert 44 is cupped thereover by the descent of the sleeve 29 under the action of the plunger 8, a sleeve 31 being applied to transmit the pressure directly to the sleeve 29. At the completion of the cupping operation, the die 21 is removed and the mirror with a ring 46, Fig. 4, and a corrugated paper filling 4'7 is placed on the die 13. The sleeve 31 is removed and the plunger 8 operated to force the cupped backing downwards, and to curl its edge to grip the ring 46.
